Kody Strieter

Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at age 11

Kody Strieter isn’t a typical teenager. He’s soft-spoken, articulate and an avid golfer. Some of Kody’s even-keel attitude likely comes from lessons learned on the links. Or perhaps because he has overcome an obstacle that few his age have faced.  At 11 years old, suffering from bouts of fatigue, Kody was referred to specialists at Texas Children’s, where he was diagnosed with ALL. After his family’s initial shock, Kody approached treatment with composure and confidence. In only a matter of months, his recovery was virtually complete. Kody celebrated his victory with a trip to The Children’s Grand Adventure In July of 2010. “It was amazing, “ he says.  “Mountains, snow, bear, elk, moose – we don’t have anything like that in Texas.” But what Kody does have back home are plenty of friends he made at The Grand Adventure. “We text each other a lot, “ he says. “A bunch of us even went to a pro soccer game together. We plan to stay close for a long, long time.”
