The Children’s Grand Adventure

Reno Dominguez

Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at age 11

“I can still feel that first breath. I had never been in air so fresh before,” says Reno Dominguez. That was 2009, when Reno first arrived at The Children’s Grand Adventure. Only four years earlier, in June of 2005, Reno was diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Thankfully, his treatment at Texas Children’s Cancer Center, under the direction of Dr. ZoAnn Dreyer, was rapid and successful. Today, Reno is a thriving student and football player at his high school in Katy, Texas, as well as a two-time Grand Adventure participant. Along with recalling the sweet Wyoming air that filled his lungs, Reno cherishes memories of camping in Yellowstone National Park, forging new friendships and sharing in the spirit of independence he observed among wolves in their natural habitat. “I’m ready for another Grand Adventure,” he says. “But before I return, I want to make sure other kids who have beaten cancer can go first.”
